11 Tips to Increase your Online Sales

If you’re looking for ways to increase your online sales or just your sales in general, this article will give you 11 tips you can start implementing straight away to see a real difference in your sales.

  1. Ease of Use

If you are getting targeted traffic to your site that is great news. But if your customers/clients are coming to your site and are not converting then your site may not have good navigation. Make sure your website is easy to use. If your site is tedious and cumbersome to navigate around then you are losing potential clients. Just by concentrating on this alone you should see an increase in your online sales.

  1. Build Trust and Sell More

This is a very simple tip but not many companies practice it. You have to gain your customers trust before you attempt to sell to them. I will give you a real world example so you can put this concept into perspective. Would you rather buy a mobile phone from a random guy in the street or a trusted mobile phone store like Carphone Warehouse. I’m guessing you will go with the latter. Even if the ‘random guy’ is selling at a much lower cost than Carphone Warehouse, most people will still buy from the trusted retailer. The key thing here is that you should focus on building trust before anything else. Once you build trust people will just start throwing money at you.

  1. Don’t Fear Transparency

This point ties in with trust. If you are transparent with customers they will start to trust you and they will see you as a brand that they can trust. How do I make my business transparent I hear you ask! Be upfront about your offers. Don’t leave major details in the small print. That is a major put off. There’s nothing worse than being lured in by a “Free Next Day Delivery” offer only to find out later on that you have to spend at least £300! Don’t get me wrong its fine to have that offer but just make sure you make the condition extremely clear to your customers. That is called being transparent! Do this and slowly but surely your online sales will start to increase.

  1. Think about your target market

Sometimes we tend to drift away from the real purpose of what our business is all about. What is that? To provide a product or service that your target market will love. The keyword there is ‘target market’. Don’t lose focus on what your target market wants. Remember that peoples preferences and tastes change overtime, so you constantly have to do research on what your target market really want.

  1. Build a Sales Funnel

If you don’t have a sales funnel in place your probably not getting the results you want. Having a proper sales funnel will allow you to focus on each aspect of your sales process. A good sales funnel will include a very targeted lead generating fragment. This will be at the very top of your funnel. If you get this bit of your funnel right the rest of it will be great.

The next bit of your funnel is to prospect your leads. Filter out all the timewasters and gather all the leads that you think have a high chance of buying from you. The last part of the funnel is to actually try and sell to these prospects. This is where you offer them a product or service they might want to purchase.

  1. Develop an SEO Marketing Strategy

No matter how much you dread SEO, there is no escaping it. It is a must for any business. It is a long term strategy that will pay dividends when done well. Implementing a good SEO strategy will get you a steady stream of sales overtime. You won’t have to do any paid marketing for those sales!

  1. Optimise for all Platforms

You need to make your website accessible to everyone. When I say accessible to everyone I mean it needs to be optimised for any device. That includes, desktop, mobile, tablets and all the other types of devices there are. The main point here is that whenever anyone searches for your site they shouldn’t have any trouble viewing it. This will increase the amount of people viewing your site which will in turn increase your sales.

  1. Start Upselling

Offer your customers the chance to upgrade. Don’t just assume that they will seek out upgrades on their own accord. If you don’t ask you won’t get. Ever heard of the saying ‘ask and you shall receive’? Well in this case it couldn’t be more true. The best time to try and sell to someone is when they have just bought from you or are about to buy from you. That is the perfect time to offer them an upgrade.

  1. Start Cross-selling

This is very similar to upselling but instead of offering upgrades, cross-selling requires that you provide more options to your customers. These are alternative options which may not necessarily be more expensive but just increases the chance of a sale as the customer will now have more choice.

  1. Concentrate on bestselling products and market those products

Don’t waste your time focusing on products or services that aren’t making you much money. If you know a certain product is your bestselling, then you should focus most of your efforts on marketing that. The aim is to fine tune your marketing so that in the long run you are increasing your sales.

  1. Optimise CTA’s

As a business your marketing should include a lot of CTA’s (Call To Action’s). If you don’t know what that is, it is an instruction you give to a prospect telling them to do something. For example ‘Click here’, ‘Buy Now’, ‘Check It Out Here’ and ‘Call Now’. You should always be testing new ones so you know which one gets more engagement. Don’t just stick to the same CTA even if you think it is working fine for you. Chances are that there is a CTA out there that is much better than the one you are using right now!

Is Your Marketing Campaign Profitable?

If done correctly, a digital marketing campaign can ignite thousands of impressions and generate the kind of engagement that can be converted into sales.

Beyond simply creating content and generating leads, your marketing campaign can create advocates for your business. Customers can provide reviews and comments through their own social accounts thus sharing your content in various interactive digital communities.

If your marketing campaign is optimal it will be measurable. With simple to use tools like google analytics you can track traffic, the amount of people who click-through to your landing page, conversions and other real-time results. You can then use all of this raw data to segment an abundance of leads and customers into specific and actionable categories.

By creating a well structured marketing campaign your business can benefit from a boost in lead generation and brand awareness. However, this could end up being very costly. For this reason, it is extremely important to budget how much you spend in relation to how many sales your marketing campaign can generate.

1 Million Small Businesses Will Go Digital by 2018

It is estimated that 1 million businesses will go digital by the end of 2017, start of 2018. This is because of recent success in business growth through social media. Below I have featured the marketing tools you should implement that will make your business one in a million! Get it?

PPC Advertising or Paid Search Marketing

PPC (Pay Per Click) advertising is great! Yes, it costs money but the rewards for your business can be amazing if you do it right (or hire an expert to do it right). For those of you who aren’t sure what PPC is, it is a mode of advertising that allows you to target people who may be interested in your business and only pay when they click on your advert. Google Adwords is the obvious choice but there are others such as Bing ads, Yahoo ads and Microsoft ads. There is a learning curve involved but like I mentioned earlier its well worth it. However, your best option would probably to get a PPC specialist or PPC agency to manage your account if you don’t.

SEO

SEO or Search Engine Optimisation is probably one of the most talked about online marketing strategies. What is SEO? The definition is literally in the name. It is to optimise your website to rank well on the search engines. This is not just a way to market your business but it is actually a must if you want your business/site to be visible to your target audience. It is a long term strategy that takes thought and careful planning. It is a difficult way to advertise which requires patience but as always if you don’t know what you’re doing then hire a professional or SEO company.

Social Media

Social media can be a great tool to create awareness for your business. Not only does it allow you to target the right people but it is also a great way to learn about your audience. For example for Twitter you can use a thing called Twitter Analytics which gives you key information about your audience. This will enable you to make your campaigns customised to what your market responds to. Best thing is that social media is a free tool so you can generate leads for your business without getting your wallet out! Unless of course you want to invest in Facebook ads or Twiter ads.

Blog

Believe it or not but if you want more organic traffic then having a blog on your site is essential. The main thing it will do for your business is help you to establish some authority in your niche. It is a long term strategy which will take a lot of good quality articles, but the results are well worth it. If done well you should eventually start seeing a lot of traffic coming to your site. This traffic will already be targeted because of your articles, so all you have to do is convert them!

Email Marketing

If you think email marketing is no longer a valuable marketing tool, think again because email is here to stay and has never been more useful for businesses (read our article “Is Email Marketing Dead” for a deeper analysis on this). The great thing about it is that all other marketing ties in with email marketing. For example if you have a new article published, you can let your email subscribers know to get that initial traffic. If you’re promoting a new product or service, promote it to your email list. You will obviously need to have built up an email list but that is a topic for another day (stay tuned). A well thought out email marketing campaign can work wonders for your business so don’t be without it!
