11 Tips to Increase your Online Sales

If you’re looking for ways to increase your online sales or just your sales in general, this article will give you 11 tips you can start implementing straight away to see a real difference in your sales.

  1. Ease of Use

If you are getting targeted traffic to your site that is great news. But if your customers/clients are coming to your site and are not converting then your site may not have good navigation. Make sure your website is easy to use. If your site is tedious and cumbersome to navigate around then you are losing potential clients. Just by concentrating on this alone you should see an increase in your online sales.

  1. Build Trust and Sell More

This is a very simple tip but not many companies practice it. You have to gain your customers trust before you attempt to sell to them. I will give you a real world example so you can put this concept into perspective. Would you rather buy a mobile phone from a random guy in the street or a trusted mobile phone store like Carphone Warehouse. I’m guessing you will go with the latter. Even if the ‘random guy’ is selling at a much lower cost than Carphone Warehouse, most people will still buy from the trusted retailer. The key thing here is that you should focus on building trust before anything else. Once you build trust people will just start throwing money at you.

  1. Don’t Fear Transparency

This point ties in with trust. If you are transparent with customers they will start to trust you and they will see you as a brand that they can trust. How do I make my business transparent I hear you ask! Be upfront about your offers. Don’t leave major details in the small print. That is a major put off. There’s nothing worse than being lured in by a “Free Next Day Delivery” offer only to find out later on that you have to spend at least £300! Don’t get me wrong its fine to have that offer but just make sure you make the condition extremely clear to your customers. That is called being transparent! Do this and slowly but surely your online sales will start to increase.

  1. Think about your target market

Sometimes we tend to drift away from the real purpose of what our business is all about. What is that? To provide a product or service that your target market will love. The keyword there is ‘target market’. Don’t lose focus on what your target market wants. Remember that peoples preferences and tastes change overtime, so you constantly have to do research on what your target market really want.

  1. Build a Sales Funnel

If you don’t have a sales funnel in place your probably not getting the results you want. Having a proper sales funnel will allow you to focus on each aspect of your sales process. A good sales funnel will include a very targeted lead generating fragment. This will be at the very top of your funnel. If you get this bit of your funnel right the rest of it will be great.

The next bit of your funnel is to prospect your leads. Filter out all the timewasters and gather all the leads that you think have a high chance of buying from you. The last part of the funnel is to actually try and sell to these prospects. This is where you offer them a product or service they might want to purchase.

  1. Develop an SEO Marketing Strategy

No matter how much you dread SEO, there is no escaping it. It is a must for any business. It is a long term strategy that will pay dividends when done well. Implementing a good SEO strategy will get you a steady stream of sales overtime. You won’t have to do any paid marketing for those sales!

  1. Optimise for all Platforms

You need to make your website accessible to everyone. When I say accessible to everyone I mean it needs to be optimised for any device. That includes, desktop, mobile, tablets and all the other types of devices there are. The main point here is that whenever anyone searches for your site they shouldn’t have any trouble viewing it. This will increase the amount of people viewing your site which will in turn increase your sales.

  1. Start Upselling

Offer your customers the chance to upgrade. Don’t just assume that they will seek out upgrades on their own accord. If you don’t ask you won’t get. Ever heard of the saying ‘ask and you shall receive’? Well in this case it couldn’t be more true. The best time to try and sell to someone is when they have just bought from you or are about to buy from you. That is the perfect time to offer them an upgrade.

  1. Start Cross-selling

This is very similar to upselling but instead of offering upgrades, cross-selling requires that you provide more options to your customers. These are alternative options which may not necessarily be more expensive but just increases the chance of a sale as the customer will now have more choice.

  1. Concentrate on bestselling products and market those products

Don’t waste your time focusing on products or services that aren’t making you much money. If you know a certain product is your bestselling, then you should focus most of your efforts on marketing that. The aim is to fine tune your marketing so that in the long run you are increasing your sales.

  1. Optimise CTA’s

As a business your marketing should include a lot of CTA’s (Call To Action’s). If you don’t know what that is, it is an instruction you give to a prospect telling them to do something. For example ‘Click here’, ‘Buy Now’, ‘Check It Out Here’ and ‘Call Now’. You should always be testing new ones so you know which one gets more engagement. Don’t just stick to the same CTA even if you think it is working fine for you. Chances are that there is a CTA out there that is much better than the one you are using right now!
